This event supports Variety – The Children’s Charity to provide help to BC children and their families. To date, runners have raised over $800,000 for charity. The history of the event dates back to 1988, when the Vancouver International Marathon Society asked Pacific Road Runners to host a Half Marathon as a build-up event to the Vancouver Marathon. The club obliged and built one of Canada’s premier running events.
Race entry includes an exclusive tech tee, race bib with built-in timing chip, refreshments, gear check, on-course services including water, electrolyte, gels, and more, an exciting Finish Line in Yaletown, post-race celebrations with hot food and lively entertainment, age category awards, medals and more.
We look forward to celebrating with you and the local run community again this February at the First Half.
“We thought it was time to pass along the torch, and it’s only fitting that we bring the ‘First Half’ back to the Vancouver International Marathon Society, another non-profit,” shares Race Director Terry Bushnell of the Pacific Road Runners.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to also thank everyone for their support of the ‘First Half’ Half Marathon, which has become a fixture in the local running scene,” adds Bushnell. RUNVAN® is continuing those initiatives you’ve grown to love.
And the First Half continues to be a perfect training race leading up to the city’s only Marathon event in May.
